    Reception and Dinner

Gov. Rick Perry, speaking after Thursday's dinner, praised transportation workers and reminded everyone of the importance of that work. Recalling an old story about an encounter between a youthful motorist and a farmer in rural Texas ("You can't get there from here, boy") told those at Thursday's dinner that transportation will shape the future of Texas and that Texans can get there (to the future) together.
Anita Perry introduced her husband for his remarks as keynote speaker. She said more people are coming to see traffic congestion as a health issue, given the effects from air pollution on the environment and on individual well-being.
Texas Transportation Forum created the opportunity for more than one handshake.
